KYOEI To-Gi 705 CMB Irons 4-PW – Black Boron – Standard Toe / Semi V Sole

$2,400.00

Raw forging to finished club, by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Every head one of one, finished by eye and by feel.

A forging arrives thick, heavy and approximate. What it becomes depends entirely on what a person removes, and on knowing when to stop.

TOGI 研ぎ is the Japanese word for that work: sharpening, grinding, polishing by hand.

Hand ground in Japan. One of one.

TO-GI is a KYOEI head taken from raw forging to finished club by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Not a machine finish with a hand check at the end. The sole, the leading edge, the relief and the neck are all shaped by eye and by feel, one head at a time.

Because the work is done by hand, no two heads come off the wheel the same.

Available Spec: Heads Only – #4-PW – Black Boron

THIS SET

Model: 705 CMB TO-GI, #4 to PW, 7 pieces. A true players cavity back with blade presence. The cavity sits behind a compact profile with the topline held at 5.2 mm through the set, so the head reads as a muscle back at address and works like a players cavity through impact. There is a touch more mass behind the face than a straight blade without any of it showing from above.

Finish: Black Boron. A dark, near black coating with a fine low sheen to it rather than a polish. Boron goes on as a hard surface layer, so it holds up to bag chatter and general wear better than a soft plating, and it keeps its tone rather than going patchy at the wear points. At address it reads as a deep flat dark shape with no glare off the topline.

Face shape: Standard Toe. The toe rolls away in one continuous radius rather than finishing on a corner, so the profile looks slightly longer and fuller at address and there is more shape to line up against. Mass sits spread evenly across the head instead of carried high in the toe, keeping the centre of gravity nearer the middle of the face and the feel even across the hitting area.

Sole grind: Semi V. A soft V ridge down the centre of the sole that tapers off hard just past the middle, narrowing the front half toward the leading edge while the trailing half stays full. The head presents a line to the ground instead of a flat plate, so it cuts in rather than bouncing. With the taper sitting forward of centre the effective riding surface is set back, keeping the leading edge clear of the ground on a steeper delivery without the head skipping.

Leading edge: Rolled into the front of the V and blended, sitting just off the ground at address. Laying the face open rolls the V onto its heel side and drops the edge, so the head still sits down on a tight lie.

Relief: Heel and toe relief through the scoring irons, enough to open the face around the green with the trailing half of the sole left full.

Neck: Blended into the topline until the transition disappears. One continuous line from hosel to toe.

Notes on this set: The most durable finish across both TO-GI models paired with the most adaptable geometry in the 705 line. Standard toe and Semi V sole handle a wide range of turf and delivery, and the boron coating means the head will look the way it looks now for a long time. For a player who wants the cavity back behind a blade profile and intends to put the set into the bag and use it rather than keep it clean.
