KYOEI To-Gi 705 CMB Irons 4-PW – Soft Black – Semi Sharp Toe / Triple Cut Sole
$2,400.00
Raw forging to finished club, by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Every head one of one, finished by eye and by feel.
A forging arrives thick, heavy and approximate. What it becomes depends entirely on what a person removes, and on knowing when to stop.
TOGI 研ぎ is the Japanese word for that work: sharpening, grinding, polishing by hand.
Hand ground in Japan. One of one.
TO-GI is a KYOEI head taken from raw forging to finished club by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Not a machine finish with a hand check at the end. The sole, the leading edge, the relief and the neck are all shaped by eye and by feel, one head at a time.
Because the work is done by hand, no two heads come off the wheel the same.

THIS SET
Model: 705 CMB TO-GI, #4 to PW, 7 pieces. A true players cavity back with blade presence. A compact profile with the topline at 5.2 mm through the set and the cavity hidden behind it, so the head looks like a muscle back at address and behaves like a players cavity through the ball.
Finish: Soft Black. A muted low contrast black that absorbs light rather than returning it. It is not a matte and not a satin, it sits between the two, with a depth to the colour that goes slightly grey where the light falls and back to black everywhere else. The effect at address is a head that recedes, so the eye goes to the ball and the leading edge and very little else.
Face shape: Semi Sharp Toe. The middle position between the two toe profiles. The toe is carried up and given a defined corner, but the point is softened and the radius kept tight rather than cut to a hard angle. At address the head reads compact and squared off without the severity of the full sharp toe, and there is still enough curve at the top of the toe to give a shape to aim against. Mass carried up in the toe keeps the face steady through impact, with the centre of gravity sitting slightly higher and further out than a standard toe but not as far as the sharp.
Sole grind: Triple Cut. Three cuts shape it. The leading edge is killed, the trailing edge is killed, and a narrow band down the centre is all that carries ground contact. Turf resistance is very low going in and coming out, so the head feels quick and neutral instead of supported. Without a wide flat area to push back against a steep strike, this grind rewards a shallower delivery and firmer ground.
Leading edge: Killed as part of the triple cut. Taken right back and blended flat for clean entry from a tight lie.
Relief: Heel and toe relief opened through the scoring irons, worked in behind the profile so the semi sharp toe line reads the same at address while the face opens freely.
Neck: Blended into the topline until the transition disappears. One continuous line at address.
Notes on this set: The semi sharp toe is the answer for a player who finds the full sharp profile too severe and the standard too round, and on the 705 it suits the head particularly well, because the cavity already wants a slightly fuller shape than a blade. Add the soft black, which is the quietest finish in the range, and the triple cut sole, and the result is a set that disappears at address and moves through turf with almost nothing holding it back. Best on firm ground with a shallow delivery.
