KYOEI To-Gi 705 CMB Irons 4-PW – Black Mirror Sticky – Semi Sharp Toe / Triple Cut Sole

$2,400.00

Raw forging to finished club, by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Every head one of one, finished by eye and by feel.

A forging arrives thick, heavy and approximate. What it becomes depends entirely on what a person removes, and on knowing when to stop.

TOGI 研ぎ is the Japanese word for that work: sharpening, grinding, polishing by hand.

Hand ground in Japan. One of one.

TO-GI is a KYOEI head taken from raw forging to finished club by hand, by one grinder in Japan. Not a machine finish with a hand check at the end. The sole, the leading edge, the relief and the neck are all shaped by eye and by feel, one head at a time.

Because the work is done by hand, no two heads come off the wheel the same.

THIS SET

Model: 705 CMB TO-GI, #4 to PW, 7 pieces. A true players cavity back with blade presence. The cavity sits behind a compact profile with the topline at 5.2 mm through the set, so the head reads as a muscle back at address and works as a players cavity through impact.

Finish: Black Mirror, sticky. A deep reflective black taken to a full mirror, wet looking rather than bright. The reflection stays dark, so the head gives back its own curves instead of the sky, and the shaping is legible in almost any light. A mirror is the least forgiving surface to put over hand ground metal because it shows every rise and fall, which is exactly why it goes on this head.

Face shape: Semi Sharp Toe. The middle of the three profiles. The toe is carried up and squared off with the corner softened and the radius kept tight, so the head sits compact and defined at address without the severity of a full sharp toe. There is still curve at the top of the toe to aim against. Mass held up in the toe keeps the face settled through impact, with the centre of gravity a touch higher and further out than a standard toe.

Sole grind: Triple Cut. Three cuts. The leading edge is killed, the trailing edge is killed, and a narrow central band is all that rides on the ground. Turf resistance is very low in both directions, so the head feels quick and neutral rather than supported. No wide flat area means a steep strike gets nothing back, so the grind wants a shallower delivery and firm turf.

Leading edge: Killed as part of the triple cut. Taken right back and blended flat so the head enters cleanly from a tight lie.

Relief: Heel and toe relief opened through the scoring irons and kept behind the profile, leaving the toe line unchanged at address while the face opens freely.

Neck: Blended into the topline until the transition disappears. One continuous line at address.

Notes on this set: The most striking set in the range. A wet black mirror over a compact cavity back gives the head enormous depth in the hand and almost no glare at address, since a dark mirror absorbs rather than throws light back. The semi sharp toe keeps the profile tight without cutting it hard, and the triple cut sole underneath is the lowest ground contact grind KYOEI offers, built for a shallow delivery on firm ground. A mirror finish will show wear at the contact points sooner than a satin or a coating, which on a hand ground one of one is generally taken as a record of use rather than a fault.
